Neverwhere by Neil Gaiman

Title: Neverwhere
Author: Neil Gaiman
Publisher: William Morrow Paperbacks
Pages: 370
Rating: 4/5 Stars

"But if this is all there is, then I don't want to be sane."

Neverwhere is my second Neil Gaiman novel and it did not disappoint. The novel tells the story of Richard Mayhew, an ordinary young man who stops to help an injured young girl he stumbles upon one night on the streets of London. That one act of kindness changes his life forever.

What did I enjoy about this book? Oh, just mostly everything. I'm the type of person who will never say that unicorns don't exist because it's much more interesting to be open to the possibility that they do and they just haven't let us catch them yet. The idea of a London Below, a London that exists unseen by the normal people walking the streets of London Above is so beautiful and romantically appealing to me.

Why Not Me? by Mindy Kaling

Title: Why Not Me?
Author: Mindy Kaling
Publisher: Crown Archetype
Pages: 223
Rating: 4/5 Stars

I purchased both of Mindy Kaling's books at the same time, thinking that my book club was planning on reading them both for our January book.

I was wrong.

But since I'd already read Mindy's first book and enjoyed it, I decided to give Why Not Me? a try.

I won a thing!

Recently, I participated in The 100 Blog Tour, hosted by Hannah at The Irish Banana Review. It was delightful to read the various interviews, reviews, and other fandom goodies. The blog tour was working in concert with Alloy Entertainment, giving away box sets of The 100 books and...

I WON!!!!!

This is so great! I'm a recent convert to The 100 tv series and I'm so excited to start reading the books that started it all.

Is Everyone Hanging Out Without Me (And Other Concerns) by Mindy Kaling

Title: Is Everyone Hanging Out Without Me (And Other Concerns)
Author: Mindy Kaling
Publisher: Three Rivers Press
Pages: 219
Rating: 4/5 Stars

Other than thinking that the title was cute, I never had the slightest desire to read Mindy Kaling’s book. I love The Office, and as much as I admired the fact that a young Indian woman was on the writing/producing staff, Kelly Kapoor was my least favorite character – until Andy Bernard showed up and my intense, active dislike transferred to him. I didn’t love to hate Kelly, I hated her, never missed her when she wasn’t in an ep and actually groaned aloud when she’d begin speaking.

Hello 2016! Hello Blog! Remember me?

So, you know...a year off. Not a year off from reading, but a year off from blogging - which, let's be real, I was never really good at in the first place.

My goal - because my best friend said that one should not make resolutions, one should set goals - is to be more active on this place and actually write reviews for the books I read. It's fun and I'm in a book club now which means my book choices are going to be even MORE random. Ha!

So, here's to 2016 and hopefully a lot more action on this blog.

The Catcher in the Rye by J.D. Salinger

Title: The Catcher in the Rye
Author: J.D. Salinger
Publisher: Little, Brown & Company
Pages: 215
Rating: 4/5 Stars

Salinger's writing style is fascinating.

I've watched too many true crime shows not to be aware of The Catcher in the Rye's connection to serial killers. As such, it was impossible to read it without thinking about that fact with every chapter.

Heart of Obsidian by Nalini Singh

Loved it!

Nalini's Psy/Changling series has reached the point where I love every book just because I get to spend time in that world again. Heart of Obsidian was awesome for that reason and because I finally got to find out more about Kaleb Krychek.
